Biography:
Professor Vladimir G. Chigrinov has been a Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) since 1999. An internationally recognized expert in flat panel display technology and liquid crystals, he was acknowledged by the World Technology Evaluation Centre (1994) and elected as a SID Fellow in 2008.
Since 1974, Professor Chigrinov has made remarkable contributions to the field, authoring 6 books, 31 reviews and book chapters, over 330 journal papers, more than 718 conference presentations, and holding 121 patents and patent applications, including 50 US patents. His achievements have been honored with the HKUST School of Engineering Excellent Research Award (2012) and the Gold Medal and Best Award at the Invention & Innovation Awards (Kuala Lumpur, 2014).
In recognition of his scientific impact, he was elected as a Member of the EU Academy of Sciences (EUAS) in 2017. Professor Chigrinov continues to play a leading role in advancing liquid crystal science and display technology worldwide.
Research Interest:
Professor Vladimir G. Chigrinov’s research focuses on liquid crystal science and technology, with particular emphasis on flat panel displays, advanced electro-optic devices, and smart optical materials. His work encompasses the design, fabrication, and characterization of liquid crystal devices, novel display technologies, and innovative applications of liquid crystals in photonics and optoelectronics. He is also actively involved in developing new materials and technologies for next-generation display systems and related electronic and optical applications.
